The brain is plastic—it rewires through learning and experience

Investigating the neural dynamics of learning and memory

Meg working at a lab bench

Welcome to the Colgin Lab at The University of Texas at Austin, where we investigate the neural dynamics that underlie learning and memory.

Memory matters

Memories shape us and enrich our lives. A deeper understanding of the brain’s learning and memory systems may unlock new possibilities for human cognition. When memory declines, quality of life can be severely affected, making it vital to uncover the causes of memory impairment in diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

Led by Dr. Laura Colgin, our research bridges cellular neuroscience and systems-level understanding to uncover how coordinated populations of neurons store, retrieve, and consolidate memories of various types of environments and experiences.
